26 October dry grass and reeds caught fire in Konayev near residential buildings. Thick smoke was visible even from the opposite shore of the Kapchagay reservoir.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the Telegram channel "Vykhod k Pravde", the fire was spotted in the area of the Southern Shore, not far from ASP Club. Eyewitnesses posted footage on social media showing the fire engulfing vegetation next to residential buildings.
"A fire like this is, of course, a terrifying sight. It is a great pity that this happened. I hope no one and nothing was harmed," one eyewitness wrote. Residents also said that vegetation in this area had burned before. Some suggested that the reeds may have been set on fire deliberately. There is no official confirmation of this version.
WHAT THE AKIMAT REPORTED
According to the Konayev akimat, a report of the fire was received by the Department of Emergency Situations of the Almaty Region (DChS) on 26 October at 15:10.
The fire broke out in a marshy area in the Vostochny microdistrict, on Akzhol Street. The fire engulfed 5 hectares of dry grass and reeds.
HOW THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED
10 firefighters and three units of equipment were dispatched to the scene. The fire was completely extinguished by approximately 20:00.
According to official data, there were no casualties. The akimat reported that there was no threat of the fire spreading to buildings.
