Electricity consumers in Almaty have accrued 35 billion tenge in accounts receivable owed to the energy supply company. Of this amount, 6 billion tenge constitutes overdue payments, for which the payment deadlines have already passed.

HOW THE DEBT WAS FORMED

According to BES.media, the debt has been accumulated by both household consumers and organisations. The director of the branch 'Alatau Zharyk Company' – 'Energosbyt' Gulzhan Islamova explained that individuals are allowed to pay within a month after the invoice is issued, and electricity disconnection can only occur after three months of arrears. For legal entities, the payment period is about five days.

According to Gulzhan Islamova, the increase in tariffs and the rise in electricity consumption are contributing to the growth of the debt. She noted that compared to the same period last year, the total amount of debt has increased.

WHICH CONSUMERS HAVE THE MOST DEBT

The company reported that a significant portion of the overdue debt is attributable to certain large consumers. In particular, the enterprise 'Almaty Su' owes around 3 billion tenge.

It was also noted that one of the most difficult situations has arisen in the residential complexes of the Nauryzbai District. The volume of debt there is approaching 1 billion tenge.

THE REASONS FOR THE PROBLEMS IN RESIDENTIAL COMPLEXES

As Gulzhan Islamova explained, the situation is related to issues of transferring and demarcating electrical networks, as well as the work of certain heads of property owners' associations (POAs).

According to company information, in some cases, funds are collected from residents but are not always transferred to the electricity supplier in a timely manner. Additional details and the number of such cases were not specified in the materials.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Consumer debt directly impacts the operations of energy supply organisations. As the volume of debt increases, it becomes more difficult for companies to carry out timely repairs to networks, maintain equipment, and ensure a stable electricity supply for urban infrastructure.

At 'Energosbyt', it was reported that work to recover the debt continues in accordance with established procedures.
