In Aktau, the investigation into a criminal case against the commander of one of the garrison's military units has been completed following the death of a conscripted serviceman, R. Zhaigaliyev. The case has been sent to court.
WHAT THE INVESTIGATION ESTABLISHED
According to the press service of the Main Military Prosecutor's Office, the investigation concerns a case of negligent attitude towards official duties on the part of the commander of the military unit of the Aktau garrison. The investigation believes that the violations led to the death of the conscript soldier on 17 February 2026.
The unit commander, according to the investigation, did not take the measures stipulated by regulations and departmental orders to ensure control over personnel and the procedure for handling weapons.
HOW THE INVESTIGATION PROCEEDED
The criminal case was investigated under the continuous supervision of military prosecutors and the coordination of an operational-investigative group.
The investigation conducted a number of forensic examinations and built an evidence base. After the completion of procedural actions, the materials were sent to court.
WHAT PERSONNEL DECISIONS WERE MADE
Following the incident, the commander of the reconnaissance assault battalion, his deputy, and the company commander were relieved of their posts.
In addition, 10 officials were brought to disciplinary responsibility.
The Main Military Prosecutor's Office stated that work to ensure the principle of the inevitability of punishment for crimes resulting in the death of servicemen will continue.
