An apple orchard planted four years ago in the «Samal» park in Ust-Kamenogorsk has almost completely died. According to the project author Sergey Brodsky, about 99% of the trees have been destroyed.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the Telegram channel «Reporter», the project author and local entrepreneur Sergey Brodsky reported that most of the trees have been damaged by rodents and have not survived.
“I must state that the orchard is finished. I think 99% of the trees have been eaten by mice. They are no longer alive. Four years of effort — all down the drain,” said Sergey Brodsky.
HOW THE ORCHARD WAS CREATED
The social project to create an apple orchard in the «Samal» park started in the summer of 2022. According to the authors' plan, in the future, city residents could freely pick fruit and relax in the shade of the trees.
Together with like-minded people, Sergey Brodsky planted dozens of apple trees and installed an irrigation system. At the launch stage, the project was also presented to the then mayor of the city, Zhaksylyk Omar.

Residents of Ust-Kamenogorsk received the initiative positively: citizens took part in clean-up events, helped care for the trees, and supported the project during its development phase.
WHAT THIS MEANS
The situation shows that after planting trees, regular care and protection from pests are necessary. However, the presented materials do not specify what measures were taken in this case and whether the death of the orchard could have been prevented.
