Residents of several buildings in Almaty are complaining about a pungent smell near a construction site on Mukanov Street, 235. According to them, the smell has persisted for about three weeks and is accompanied by irritation of the throat and eyes. However, the akimat stated that no violations of sanitary norms were identified.
WHAT RESIDENTS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT
The complaint appeared on the social network Threads. City residents report that the smell is felt not only near the construction site, but also in neighbouring residential complexes, including in ZhK "Teatralny".
According to residents, it seeps into flats even with the windows closed. Some also complain of headaches and being unable to ventilate their premises.
They also said that they had sent requests via E-Otinish, but according to them, the applications were repeatedly redirected between departments. One of the applicants reported that the sanitary service forwarded the request to the police. According to her, a police officer visited the construction site together with her, and representatives of the site stated that the necessary certificates were in place.
WHAT THE AKIMAT RESPONDED
The akimat of Almalinsky District reported that a residential complex, Frankfurt na Vesnovke, is being built at 235 Mukanov. At the time of the response, waterproofing work was being carried out on the site.
Referring to the Sanitary and Epidemiological Control Department of Almalinsky District, the authority stated that no violations of sanitary norms were identified. The preliminary completion date for the works is 20 October 2026.
