In Almaty, a project is being implemented to build a western sewage collector in the Nauryzbai District, which is intended to provide access to the wastewater system for around 200 thousand residents. The contractor is JSC "Pavlodar River Port", a company against which complaints have previously been raised regarding a number of its projects.
WHAT THE AKIMAT REPORTED
The editorial board of FBRK requested clarification from the Almaty Akimat following a publication about a contract involving JSC "Pavlodar River Port". According to the Akimat, the agreement with the contractor was concluded on 26 November 2024 — prior to the public criticism appearing.
At the current stage, construction and installation work is being carried out to lay a gravity sewer with a diameter of 600 mm on the section from K72 to K95.
The work is taking place in the Nauryzbai District on Stroitelnaya Street — from Abay Avenue to Alatau Avenue.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
The project involves the construction of a collector with a total length of 35 km — from Zhandosov Street to the city's wastewater treatment facilities. Concurrently, construction of a sewage pumping station is underway in the Algabas area.
As the department explained, the project aims to address infrastructure problems in the Nauryzbai and part of the Alatau districts, where a collector of the required capacity is lacking, and existing systems are operating under increased load.
It is expected that upon completion:
- around 200 thousand residents will gain access to centralised wastewater disposal;
- the sanitary and epidemiological situation will improve;
- the reliability of engineering networks will increase;
- risks of accidents and unauthorised discharges will be reduced.
RESTRICTIONS AND CONSTRUCTION CONDITIONS
In connection with the work on certain sections of the road network, temporary traffic restrictions have been introduced. Residents and visitors to the city are asked to take the changes into account when planning their routes.
The city's Department of Energy and Water Supply clarified that construction is taking place in conditions of dense urban development, heavy traffic flow, and near existing utility networks. Part of the work is being carried out at considerable depth, in compliance with safety requirements.
All measures are being implemented within the framework of the approved design and estimate documentation and current building regulations.
