Construction has begun in Almaty on a western sewage collector, which will provide access to the drainage system for around 200,000 residents of the Nauryzbai District. Work is underway on the section from Abay Avenue to Alatau Avenue.
WHO IS BUILDING IT AND WHERE THE PROJECT IS LOCATED
According to BES.media, the project contractor is JSC "Pavlodar River Port". Work is being carried out on Stroitelnaya Street, and the total length of the future collector will be 35 km — from Zhandosov Street to the city's treatment facilities.
At the same time, a sewage pumping station is being built in the Algabas area. Upon completion of the project, the authorities expect to connect around 200,000 people to the centralised drainage system.
HOW MUCH THE PROJECT COSTS
According to data from the public procurement portal, the contract value, which includes the reconstruction of certain sections of the Kargaly River bed and related construction work, amounts to 6.07 billion tenge excluding VAT (or 7.04 billion tenge including VAT).
The contract is a multi-year agreement and is due to be fulfilled by December 2027.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE CONTRACTOR
JSC "Pavlodar River Port" has previously carried out a number of major infrastructure projects in Almaty.
These include:
- the improvement of the Sayran area, costing 12.11 billion tenge;
- the reconstruction of the Bolshaya Almatinka embankment for nearly 8 billion tenge;
- the reconstruction of the Big Almaty Canal (BAC), valued at 12.4 billion tenge with additional funding of 400 million tenge.
The company has previously faced criticism over the quality and timeliness of certain projects.
COMPANY OWNERSHIP STRUCTURE
According to data from Kompra.kz, the founder since 2004 has been SAN LLP. At various times, the founders of this company included Meiram Pshembayev — a former Majilis deputy and unpaid advisor to the President since 2021.
Currently, the founders of SAN LLP are listed as Dolores Pshembayeva and Anneta Sagynbek.
