"On 19 September 2024 at around 14:20, two employees of the enterprise were injured. The preliminary cause is a rock collapse. One of the victims died in hospital from his injuries. The other is at home after receiving medical care.", reported the press service of KAZ Minerals.
The circumstances and causes of the incident are being investigated, and a special commission has been set up to investigate the tragic event.
"The management and staff of the KAZ Minerals Group extend their sincere and deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. The company will provide comprehensive support to the family.", the company stated.
At the same time, CMN reports that the police of the Abai region have launched an investigation into violations of safety rules for mining or construction work, which resulted in a death by negligence.
Approximately 14,000 people work at KAZ Minerals branches in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. 63.5% of the company's shares are owned by businessman Vladimir Kim, whose fortune, according to Forbes.kz, is $3.6 billion.
Earlier, in the Zhambyl region, a worker was buried under rock at one of the mining and processing complexes of JSC "AK Altynalmas". Search operations are still ongoing.
