When will the desalination plant in Aktau be completed?

Submitted by Вера Александрова on

The Akimat of Aktau has announced the launch of the first of three desalination plants at the "Kaspiy" facility in the coming days.

According to Lada.kz, the modernisation of the plant has been ongoing for three years. It is noted that the general contractor, Caspian Constructors Trust LLP, has completed all construction work.

The company is now carrying out commissioning and preparations for the launch of the desalination units.

"According to the technology, after the units are launched, water preparation will take about 10 days, including disinfection work. In accordance with the approved plan, on 20 November the city will receive the first 5,000 cubic metres of water, and by the end of the month the plant plans to produce an additional 10,000 cubic metres," said Serik Gusman, Director of the Caspian Desalination Plant LLP.

Meanwhile, ORDA reports that residents of Aktau have been facing water shortages for several years. It has become known that water reaches their homes via desalination plants from the Caspian Sea, but in recent years the facilities have been unable to cope with the demand.

It is worth recalling that in November last year, it was reported that the deputy general director of Oil Construction Company LLP — a subsidiary of KazMunayGas — had been arrested.

The deputy director of the LLP was detained on suspicion of repeatedly accepting bribes from a businessperson. It was noted that the bribes were intended to facilitate the unhindered transfer of funds during the construction of a seawater desalination plant in the Tokmak and Kenderli areas.
