On 30 January, Mazhilis deputy Samat Nurtaza posted a photo on the social media platform Threads with colleagues to mark the 30th anniversary of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. A discussion about the work of deputies unfolded beneath the post, to which the parliamentarian responded with a sharp remark. The language used provoked a negative reaction from users.

HOW THE DISCUSSION AROSE

Nurtaza's publication was accompanied by comments from citizens asking questions about his work as a deputy. One follower wrote:

"In 30 years, have you ever asked yourself: what have I done for my country? For the people? You can't even answer that. Have you only stolen? Lived carefree?"

In response to the comment, Samat Nurtaza used a colloquial and blunt turn of phrase:

"Hey mate, watch your mouth. I'm not accountable for the last 30 years. I'll answer for my own three years."

In this way, the deputy emphasised that he considers himself responsible only for the period of his work in the Mazhilis, which began in March 2023.

WHY THE REACTION WAS NEGATIVE

The deputy's phrase drew criticism among Kazakhs on social media. Users noted that public representatives of the authorities should formulate their responses more appropriately, especially when communicating with citizens.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE POST

The post containing the discussion was later deleted by the deputy.

POSITIONS HELD BY SAMAT NURTAZA

Samat Nurtaza has held the position of deputy in the lower house of the RK parliament since March 2023. Previously, in 2022–2023, he worked as deputy director of the RSE «Qoğamdyq kelisim». The materials do not specify whether there was any official reaction from the Mazhilis to the incident on social media.
