Deputy of the Nurinsky District Maslikhat of the Karaganda Region Serik Bekmagambetov was charged with petty hooliganism. In addition to being arrested for 15 days, the elected official has become the subject of a criminal case on two counts.

According to Zakon.kz, on 21 October in the village of Akhmetaul in the Karaganda Region, a drunken man threatened a 60-year-old local resident with a weapon. Police identified and detained the 38-year-old deputy.

“A criminal case has been initiated on charges of ‘threat’ and ‘illegal carrying of a firearm’. All the victim’s statements are currently being thoroughly verified. The criminal case is under the supervision of the leadership of the police department of the Karaganda Region”, said the press service of the Karaganda Region Police Department.

For context, in September last year, Aktobe Maslikhat deputy Saniya Muratova violated traffic rules while driving a Lexus under the influence of alcohol. Police officers stopped the 53-year-old woman’s car and smelt alcohol when checking her documents. A test also confirmed that she was indeed under the influence of alcohol.

Later, the administrative case against Muratova was heard in court without the defendant present. As a result, the woman was banned from driving for 7 years. She later resurfaced and received 15 days of administrative arrest. She subsequently lost her deputy mandate. Incidentally, in October this year, it was reported that Muratova had been appointed a member of the public council of the Aktobe Region.
