The deputies of the Almaty maslikhat supported the initiative of the city's mayor Yerbolat Dosayev to increase the one-time payment to veterans of the Great Patriotic War (WWII) for the victory anniversary to 2 million tenge.
According to the press service of the Almaty akimat, veterans had been paid 1 million tenge annually for Victory Day.
"On the instruction of the mayor of Almaty, we are introducing a resolution to increase the one-time social assistance by 1 million tenge. In total, this year veterans can receive one-time assistance in the amount of 2 million tenge", stated Baurzhan Zhaubasov, head of the Almaty Department of Employment and Social Programmes.
It is reported that currently 44 veterans of the Great Patriotic War live in Almaty.
