Unique tyre recycling plant in Semey achieves first results

Submitted by Вера Александрова on

Investment activity continues to develop in the Abay region. One example of successfully invested capital is the construction by Eikos LLP of a unique tyre recycling plant in the city of Semey.
_____________
For reference: Eikos LLP is one of the largest importers and suppliers of automotive tyres in Kazakhstan, with more than 10,000 corporate clients, including OzenMunaiGas, KazTransGas, KEGOC, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, and others.

In less than four months, the plant has already processed 1,000 tonnes of tyres and attracted around 2.75 billion tenge in investment. It is planned that the facility will eventually be able to process up to 12,000 tonnes of tyres annually. Currently, 85 people are employed at the plant.

To gain a more detailed understanding of the plant's operations and the project's prospects, representatives of the media and the Regional Communications Service of the Abay region visited the tyre recycling plant. It is reported that the plant uses two recycling methods: thermal and mechanical.

From 12,000 tonnes of used tyres annually, it is planned to produce 600 tonnes of furnace fuel, 600 tonnes of briquetted granulate, the same amount of high-alloy steel wire, as well as 6,300 tonnes of rubber granules of various fractions, 1,500 tonnes of steel cord, and 1,600 tonnes of textile fibre.

It is noted that the rubber crumb is used to produce tiles, watering hoses, surfaces for sports and children's playgrounds, as well as for manufacturing automotive accessories and modified bitumen. The enterprise also produces materials for cleaning water surfaces from oil spills.

The general director of Eikos LLP, Alexander Solovyov, spoke about the initial results of the unique tyre recycling plant.

"1,000 tonnes of raw materials have been processed, 450 tonnes of rubber crumb have been produced, 50 tonnes of pyrolysis oil, 200 tonnes of metal (high-alloy steel) have been obtained, as well as textiles, which we plan to process to produce materials for consumer goods. Since the plant began operation, more than 3,000 tonnes of used tyres have been collected, and three illegal tyre dumps have been eliminated," noted the plant's general director.

It is reported that as part of the Abay region's development strategy up to 2028, a pool of investment projects has been formed in the region, which includes 23 projects with a total value of 2 trillion tenge. These are expected to create around 7,000 jobs.

It is noted that to date, 6 investment projects worth 7.5 billion tenge have already been implemented, creating 225 jobs. In the agro-industrial complex, 17 investment projects worth 7.3 billion tenge have been launched.
