The Department of the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM) has launched a pre-trial investigation into the management of Atyrau Oil Refinery LLP (AOR).

According to the AFM press office, the investigation is being conducted regarding the abuse of official powers by the plant's management. In the investigators' view, this led to grave consequences - exceptionally large-scale damage was inflicted on the state.

It should be noted that Galymzhan Zhussanbayev became the new general director of the AOR in January. However, just a week ago, the press office of KazMunayGas reported his dismissal.

Earlier, we reported that former AOR general director Shukhrat Danbay was found guilty on the fourth count of abuse of official powers.

While leading the AOR, he signed an order to commission a deep oil processing complex despite the equipment installer not having rectified defects. At the time, the plant's damage was estimated at nearly 728 million tenge.

The court sentenced Danbay to 4 years and 6 months of restriction of liberty with a lifetime ban from holding positions in public service.

Previously, Shukhrat Danbay had already been convicted on three different counts for abuse of official powers and misappropriation of another's property, for which he received 3.5 years of restriction of liberty.
