The Zhambyl region holds second place in terms of the number of renewable energy sources (RES) in Kazakhstan and leads in terms of their capacity.
Today, there are 22 renewable energy facilities operating in the region with a total capacity of 551.3 MW. These include: 10 wind farms with a capacity of 275.6 MW, 6 hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of 24.4 MW, and 6 solar power plants with a capacity of 251.2 MW.


According to the press service of the akimat, in 2023 electricity production in the Zhambyl region amounted to 4,348.6 million kWh. This year, they plan to produce 4,560.8 million kWh.
In the near future, local authorities intend to implement three major projects, including:
- a wind farm by the company 'Total Eren' in the Moyynkum district with a capacity of 1 GW,
- a wind farm by the company Masdar (UAE) in the Sarysu and Talas districts with a capacity of 500 MW,
- a wind farm by the company China Power International Holding Limited with a capacity of 500 MW.
It is expected that by 2028 the Zhambyl region will have 25 renewable energy facilities, with a total capacity of 2.5 GW. It is noted that the region has every opportunity for the development of RES.
