Akim of Astana, Zhenis Kassymbek, at a meeting with residents of the Yesil district, announced the transfer of a land plot near the Keruen shopping centre to state ownership.
According to Informburo.kz, the land on which the public garden was developed is currently owned by a private individual.
"Competitive procedures were carried out for the construction of the park near Keruen. A contract was signed, and the developer partially completed landscaping works at their own expense, but the work is not yet finished. The land will be fully returned to the state fund. Any budget funds spent by the developer will remain as a city asset, not in private hands. The park is used by residents and is needed by the city. The facility has proven to be in demand, and residents like it.", said Zhenis Kassymbek.
It is noted that the public garden was landscaped in autumn 2024. According to the project, it represents an urban forest with winding paths.
Incidentally, the founder of FBRK, Kirill Pavlov, initiated the seizure of this plot from private ownership back in summer 2023. At that time, the plot belonged to the son-in-law of former president Nursultan Nazarbayev - businessman Timur Kulibayev.
Pavlov then conducted an interview with the head of the land resources management committee, Murat Temirzhanov, who supported the idea of returning the territory to state ownership.
For reference, the FBRK editorial team has previously written multiple times about how residents of the 'Krasnaya Derevnya' microdistrict are fighting to preserve the public garden, where they planted trees and shrubs themselves. The land plot is currently privately owned by Fiesta Hall LLP, and its owner plans to build a multi-storey residential building.
The Astana Environmental Protection Department committed to issuing the company a permit for tree felling in the microdistrict. It was noted that this decision contradicts the results of recent public consultations, at which 94 local residents voted in favour of preserving the public garden.
