The Specialised Interdistrict Criminal Court of the Mangystau Region sentenced Nurzhan Arynnov, the son of the Deputy Head of Police of the West Kazakhstan Region Talgar Arynnov, to a long term of imprisonment.

According to Lada.kz, the case was heard with the participation of a jury. The defendant was charged under paragraphs 1, 3 and 5 of Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan – "Illegal acquisition, storage, transportation of psychotropic substances for the purpose of sale by a group of persons by prior conspiracy on an especially large scale, through the use of electronic information resources".

Upon arrest, packages containing psychotropic and synthetic substances, as well as electronic scales, a metal spoon, insulating tape and foil were seized from the young man.

The jury's verdict found him guilty and sentenced him to 10 years' imprisonment.

It is noted that in May, during the initial hearing of the case, Arynnov was acquitted as his guilt was considered unproven.

However, in July, the judicial panel granted the petition of the regional prosecutor's office and quashed the jury's acquittal. The case was sent for a new trial.
