School in Kostanay region at risk of further collapse

Submitted by Вера Александрова on

In the settlement of Novonezhinka, Auliekol district, Kostanay region, serious concerns have once again arisen over the safety of children. Parents of schoolchildren claim that the reinforced concrete floor slabs in the school building have cracked and sagged, and the contractor is hastily covering these defects with suspended ceilings. People fear that the structure could collapse during the school day.

According to the Telegram channel 'HALYQSTAN', parents of students visited the site and discovered deep cracks and clear distortions in the slabs, which are in a pre-emergency condition. Representatives of the akimat and the education department were called to the scene, but the people received no clear explanation as to why the facility has still not been declared unsafe.

Particular outrage has been caused by the fact that in September last year, a collapse already occurred in this building. At that time, the floor slabs of the third floor fell, pulling down the structures of the second floor and part of the brick facade.

Responsibility for the building's condition was then attempted to be placed on the contracting organisation 'Grenada', but the company presented correspondence and documents proving that months before the emergency, it had warned the clients about the critical state of the facility and the inadmissibility of further work without revising the design. The problem, as the builders noted, lay in the design documentation itself.

After the incident, 'Grenada' was removed from the renovation, and the restoration work was assigned to Rudnyisokolovstroy LLP. However, the condition of the slabs raises even more questions about the quality of the work carried out.

Parents and community activists blame not only the contractors but also the akimat of the Auliekol district, as well as representatives of the design and technical supervision. They believe that the negligence of officials and experts has endangered the lives of hundreds of children.

Notably, the emergency situation declared at the facility last year has still not been lifted. Despite this, local authorities insist that the school will open by 1 September and will be ready to receive students.
