A resident of Aktau has died after a planned operation to correct a nasal septum – septorhinoplasty. According to her son, the woman suffered from breathing difficulties and sought surgical help.

According to Tengrinews.kz, the deceased's family claims that the operation was performed by the same doctor who operated on a 22-year-old woman from Kostanay this spring. After that rhinoseptoplasty, the patient fell into a coma and has not emerged from it for six months.

The relatives of the deceased are demanding that the surgeon be held criminally liable for improper performance of professional duties resulting in the patient's death.

The department of the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control of the Ministry of Health reported that an unscheduled inspection was carried out at the private clinic Medina Plastic Surgery from 10 to 16 July. It emerged that at the time of the operation, the clinic did not have a licence to provide medical services.

"From 20 March 2025 to 3 June 2025, Medina Plastic Surgery LLP did not have a state licence for medical activities in the following specialities: plastic surgery, anaesthesiology and resuscitation, neurosurgery, and inpatient care for the adult population," the department said.

It is noted that the state licence was only issued on 17 June 2025, after the patient's death.

According to the department, a complaint regarding the poor quality of medical care was only received by the department on 3 July — a month after the tragedy. The fatality had not been officially reported before then.

On 28 August, the clinic's licence was revoked. Inspection materials have been handed over to the Astana Police Department for legal assessment and procedural decision-making.
