In the Zhanibek district court of the West Kazakhstan Region, the case of a surgeon whose error led to the amputation of a patient's leg was heard. The victim forgave the doctor and reconciled with him.
According to ORDA, in October last year, a local resident sustained a workplace injury to his leg.
"He was taken to hospital, the wound was treated with antiseptics, necrotic (dead) tissue was removed and it was stitched up. But no drainage was provided to allow pus and fluid to drain from the wound. Fluid accumulated there and an infection developed," the report stated.
In the end, in November, the victim's limb was amputated at ankle level.
The court established that the surgeon at the district hospital was negligent in his professional duties and did not perform them properly.
Despite this, the victim forgave the doctor and stated that the defendant had compensated him for the property damage caused. The defendant was released from liability.
"He reconciled with the doctor through mediation, forgave him and filed a request to drop the criminal case," the report stated.
It will be recalled that in November last year, a resident of Balkhash, Mereyert Aulbayeva, died due to medical negligence. The young woman repeatedly contacted the local clinic with complaints about her health, but she was only seen several days later, and the operation to remove her appendix was only performed a week later. Sepsis developed in Aulbayeva's body, with which she lived for three months, before passing away.
At the beginning of November this year, following an investigation, an employee of the multidisciplinary hospital in Balkhash was held criminally liable under Article 317, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Improper performance of professional duties by a medical or pharmaceutical worker). However, the case regarding Mereyert's tragic death now risks being dragged out again indefinitely. Read the details via the link.
