In Uralsk, a court partially upheld the claim of the family of a woman who died after being hospitalised with an infectious disease. The court found that doctors breached standards of medical care, leading to the patient's death.

According to the press service of the courts of the West Kazakhstan Region, a 45-year-old female resident of the city was taken to hospital by ambulance at the end of March 2022 with a diagnosis of an acute infectious disease. Despite treatment, her condition deteriorated, and she died a week later.

After the tragedy, the deceased's relatives filed a lawsuit against the regional health department and the hospital, stating that the death was caused by negligent performance of duties by medical staff.

"The loss of a daughter and sister was a severe psychological shock for the family. Even three years later, they continue to suffer intense moral, physical, and emotional distress," the statement said.

An inspection conducted by the Department of the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control confirmed numerous violations in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of the patient.

Specifically, the attending physician deviated from medical care standards, performed duties improperly, and falsified medical records.

Following an administrative investigation, three doctors were held disciplinarily responsible for providing substandard medical services.

The court established a direct causal link between the actions of the medical staff and the patient's death. As a result, the hospital was ordered to pay over 3 million tenge to the mother and sister of the deceased.
