Rats on the Aktau embankment are worrying residents

In Aktau, there have been increased instances of rodents appearing on the city promenade. Local residents are filming videos of rats freely running along the walking area. The footage is being actively shared on social media.

According to Lada.kz, residents are raising the alarm and demanding immediate action from local authorities.

"It seems treatment was carried out recently, but apparently it hasn't been effective — the rats are only increasing, especially in the evening," complain city residents.

The city's housing and communal services department reported that deratisation work on the promenade was carried out in May of this year.

"The second phase is planned for September. We are now passing the video footage to specialists so they can assess the situation and, if necessary, take immediate action. If required, we will carry out additional treatment ahead of schedule," said the deputy head of the city's housing and communal services department, Aydar Bisenov.

It has become known that the deratisation covered the coastal area, the seaport district, the villages of Umirzak and Akzhelken, as well as microdistricts 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 of Aktau.

The work was carried out by the company Medic-Hygienist LLP, which holds a state license for conducting deratisation, disinsection and disinfection in the healthcare sector.

It should be noted that the sanitary situation in Aktau is also complicated by other factors. Previously, the company Caspiy Operating LLP, which handles the removal of solid household waste (SHW) in Aktau, appealed with an open letter to city residents. The reason was increasingly frequent disruptions to the waste collection schedule. As the company explained, the system is close to collapse due to the discrepancy between the current tariff and actual costs, as well as the critically high level of debt owed by the population and businesses.

It is worth noting that the problems with waste disposal and the mass appearance of rodents may be links in the same chain.

Meanwhile, in July 2024, residents of microdistrict 13 in Aktau complained about a rat infestation, linking it to the culling of stray cats, while authorities stated that deratisation had been carried out and that control within homes is the responsibility of the housing cooperative (KSC).
