The FBRK editorial team has obtained a letter that the Special Public Commission on the Problem of Urban Development of the Lake Maly Taldykol Area sent to the Mayor of Astana, Zhenis Kassymbek. The Commission demands an independent expert assessment of the technogenic load due to the active construction around Maly Taldykol.

The public association, established on the basis of the ALE 'Association of Environmental Organisations of Kazakhstan', includes public figures concerned about the Maly Taldykol issue, deputies of the Majilis of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and a group of experts.

In addition to the independent assessment, the Commission has demanded that the city's akimat provide the current project that serves as the justification for the draining of Maly Taldykol.

The letter states that if the project 'Drainage of Lake Maly Taldykol' or the details of the corresponding document are not received, the Commission reserves the right to consider that the said project was never developed at all. In that case, the public figures intend to 'take further measures and actions in accordance with the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Administrative Offences'.

The FBRK editorial team regularly raises the issue of the drying up of Maly Taldykol, linked to the active development of its coastline. We have analysed over 100 privatised plots, and also compiled a selection of the largest land plots and their owners.

We remind you that earlier, public figure and journalist Kirill Pavlov sent an inquiry to the akimat of Astana to find out whether the illegally issued plots would be confiscated. Furthermore, he raised the issue of creating the promised park zone on the site of Lake No. 4. We are still awaiting clear answers to the questions raised.
