Employees of the anti-drug crime department of the Turkestan Regional Police Department have been detained on suspicion of selling seized drugs. Among those detained are the deputy head of the department, Daulet Yermekov, and an operational officer, Ussen Sultanbayev.

According to the Telegram channel «HALYQSTAN», the police officers attempted to sell marijuana that had been seized in a criminal case. They were caught red-handed by officers from the Internal Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The press service of the ministry confirmed the fact of the detention.

“The Internal Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with the Security Department of the Turkestan Regional Police Department, detained two police officers on suspicion of committing illegal acts, and they are being held accountable. Both suspects have been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. A pre-trial investigation is underway,” explained official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Shyngys Alekeshev.

According to the ministry, a disciplinary committee meeting has already taken place at the regional police department, following which both officers were dismissed on negative grounds.

“The Minister of Internal Affairs has repeatedly emphasised the systematic work to continuously purge our own ranks of dishonest employees. We declare a principled position and zero tolerance for betrayal of the oath,” emphasised Alekeshev.

It is worth recalling that in December last year, the prosecutor's office of the Zhetysu region announced the conclusion of a criminal case against a local police inspector from Tekeli city.

In March 2017, the accused, along with accomplices, stole physical evidence worth 24 million tenge that was part of a criminal case.
