In the Arys District Court of the Turkestan Region, a verdict was announced for three former employees of the Transport Police Department of the Criminal Police Division of Arys-1 Station. On the defendants' bench were police major operatives Nurbol Baiguttiyev and Turar Rakhimov, as well as captain Askar Turabekov.

According to Ratel.kz, in May 2024, the accused staged a crime to boost their crime-solving statistics. They proposed to an acquaintance in dire financial straits that she play the role of a victim in a "staged" incident involving a fake mobile phone theft. A second woman also took part in the staged event, playing the role of the "thief."

According to the police officers' script, both participants boarded a train at Arys Station to act out the theft. The "thief" then got off at Shaulder Station with the supposedly stolen phone, while the "victim" called the transport police and filed a statement.

The arrest of the suspect and the return of the phone were accompanied by a fake confession and reconciliation between the parties, which allowed the case to be closed. In this way, the police officers formally reported solving the crime.

In March 2025, the police officers were arrested. During the trial, the defendants pleaded guilty, expressed remorse, and entered into a procedural agreement with the prosecutor. The court sentenced each of them to two years of restriction of liberty, stripped them of their ranks and the right to work in public service, and ordered them to pay 55,380 tenge each to the victims' compensation fund.

Earlier, it was reported that in Ust-Kamenogorsk, three police officers were convicted of extorting 3 million tenge from a public figure.
