Three police officers from Rudny are on trial accused of accepting a bribe through extortion. According to the prosecution, they demanded 1 million tenge to close a criminal case concerning the theft of a phone, and the arrest took place during the transfer of 450,000 tenge.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE CASE
According to "Our Newspaper", the defendants in the dock are Madyar Tazhin, Myrzageldy Umarov and Serikbolsyn Asylkhan. They are charged with accepting a bribe through extortion by a group of persons acting in prior conspiracy.
The criminal case was prompted by the theft of a phone from a locker in the changing room of the "Sokolovskaya" mine. The suspect in that case was Danil Korenchuk. According to the verdict of the Rudny City Court, he stole a phone, a case and two SIM cards with a total value of 78,000 tenge.
WHY THE POLICE OFFICERS WERE DETAINED
According to the prosecution, after solving the theft, the police officers demanded 1 million tenge from Korenchuk to close the criminal case. He filed a complaint about extortion with the National Security Committee (KNB).
The police officers were detained during the transfer of 450,000 tenge in cash. The case is currently being heard by the Rudny City Court.
Korenchuk himself had already been punished earlier in the theft case. On 10 July, the court found him guilty and imposed three years of restriction of liberty. Taking into account an amnesty, the term was reduced to two years.
WHAT IS BEING DISCUSSED IN COURT
The proceedings are currently at the stage of questioning witnesses and examining evidence. The court questioned a witness, Ayazhan Daunbekova, who was present as a lay assessor during the detention of one of the defendants.
Testimony was also given by an employee of the Rudny police department, Sainybek Dushan. He described the circumstances of Korenchuk's questioning and explained that one police officer conducted the questioning while another employee signed the protocol.
The defendants' lawyers filed motions to question other employees of the police department, including the head of the criminal police department. The court refused this motion.
WHAT MOTIONS THE COURT IS CONSIDERING
The defence also asks that materials from covert investigative actions be excluded from the evidence, citing violations in the procedure for adding them to the case. In addition, the lawyers moved to exclude the conclusion of experts who examined audio recordings of the defendants' conversations.
