Officers of the patrol police company of the Atyrau Regional Police Department recorded more than 600 violations of traffic rules in adverse weather conditions using an unmanned aerial vehicle. All violators have been held administratively liable. The increased enforcement is linked to the higher risks of accidents during the autumn-winter period.
As noted by the department, adverse weather conditions significantly impede traffic on the roads and increase the likelihood of road traffic accidents. In fog, it is more difficult for drivers to judge the distance to the vehicle ahead, as well as to correctly assess the speed of oncoming and overtaking vehicles. Therefore, overtaking is strictly prohibited in foggy conditions.
Special attention should be paid to the use of lights. Using high beam headlights in fog is not advisable, as the reflection of light significantly worsens visibility. In such situations, it is necessary to turn on dipped headlights and fog lamps. It is also important to consider the likelihood of black ice during the autumn-winter period and to exercise increased caution.
Police officers recommend avoiding travel in adverse weather whenever possible. If a journey is necessary, drivers should strictly adhere to traffic rules, refrain from using mobile phones while driving, and must wear their seatbelts.
Compliance with these simple requirements helps preserve the life and health of both drivers and other road users, the Atyrau Regional Police Department emphasises.
