In Almaty, on the first day of the operational preventive operation (OPO) ‘Stop-Violations’, more than 2,000 traffic violations were detected. The scale of checks also affected users of electric scooters and led to around 1,000 cars being impounded.
WHAT VIOLATIONS WERE DETECTED
According to the Department of Police (DP) of Almaty, the OPO ‘Stop-Violations’ has been ongoing in the city since 1 April, aiming to stabilise the traffic situation and reduce the level of offences.
During the first day, police officers recorded more than 2,200 violations. The main focus was on curbing serious offences, including:
- driving under the influence;
- driving into the oncoming lane;
- driving without a driving licence.
Additionally, as part of the operation, around 1,000 vehicles were impounded and taken to specialised parking lots.
CONTROL OVER ELECTRIC SCOOTERS
Special attention was paid to electric scooter users. About 400 violations were detected in a day, including cases involving minors.
Measures were taken against the parents of such offenders.
POLICE STANCE
Deputy Head of the DP of Almaty, Galym Sargulov, emphasised that the aim of the operation is not only to record violations but also to create a safe environment on the roads.
"We call on all road users to strictly follow the rules and remember their responsibility — both personal and parental. Building a culture of safe behaviour on the roads is a shared task," Sargulov stated.
The department added that control has been strengthened across all areas, with work to reduce accident rates being carried out systematically and consistently.
