Prosecutors in the North Kazakhstan Region uncovered cases of embezzlement of budget funds under the resettlement programme.
According to the press service of the regional prosecutor's office, participants in the resettlement programme in the G. Musrepov district, as well as the Aiyrtau and Zhambyl districts, artificially inflated the actual cost of housing to obtain the maximum state compensation.
These actions caused the state damage totalling 11.3 million tenge. Based on these facts, prosecutors launched pre-trial investigations under Article 190 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 'Fraud'.
Ultimately, the district court found three programme participants guilty and sentenced them to restriction of liberty for a term of one to three years.
At the same time, resettlement programme participants who received financial assistance from the state moved from their resettlement locations to other regions for permanent residence. Despite this, officials of local executive bodies (LEBs) did not take measures to recover these payments amounting to 103.6 million tenge.
Based on prosecutorial oversight reports, 25 LEB officials, including 11 heads of Career Centre branches, were brought to disciplinary responsibility. An amount of 19.1 million tenge was returned to the budget. The remaining sum is being recovered through the courts.
