A verdict has been handed down in the Kyzylorda region in a case concerning the embezzlement of budget funds from the education department of the Zhanakorgan district.
According to the regional prosecutor's office, 9 people were in the dock. They were accused of embezzling over 200 million tenge in budget funds.
"The pre-trial investigation was carried out by the regional prosecutor's office. During the court hearing, the state prosecutor proved that funds were illegally transferred to the accounts of individuals not working in the education system", the statement said.
The court sentenced the main defendants in the case to imprisonment, while the remaining 7 accomplices received suspended sentences with a ban on engaging in accounting activities. The exact lengths of the sentences handed down to the convicts were not disclosed.
It will be recalled that it was previously reported that the head of the education department of the Zhanakorgan district, B. Ibragimova, the chief accountant, K. Ayazbayeva, and accountants from 24 schools were found guilty of embezzling over 1 billion tenge.
The court sentenced the head and chief accountant of the institution to 8 years' imprisonment, and one of the school accountants to 7 years' imprisonment with a 5-year deferral of the sentence due to having a young dependent child.
