In the village of Shakhovskoye, Kyzylzhar District of the North Kazakhstan Region, more than 7,000 birds died. The regional governor, Gauyez Nurmukhambetov, commented on the situation with the mass death of domestic poultry and answered whether owners could expect compensation.
According to Informburo.kz, in 21 households in the village, 7,236 birds died, approximately 98% of which were geese. Deaths of turkeys and ducks were also recorded. Laboratory tests showed that the cause was pasteurellosis.
"According to the law, in the event of livestock or poultry deaths, we are obliged to send samples to the National Reference Centre for Veterinary Medicine to determine the type of infection. Our specialists visited the site, took samples, and based on the test results, a diagnosis of pasteurellosis was established," said Nurmukhambetov.
Currently, disinfection and measures to prevent the spread of the infection are being carried out in the village. Around 90% of the dead birds have been disposed of.
Answering a question about possible payments, the governor noted that under current legislation, no budget compensation is provided for pasteurellosis.
Nurmukhambetov recalled that a similar situation had already occurred in the village of Bugrovoye. At that time, following instructions from the district governor, funds were collected together with local producers to partially compensate residents for the value of the dead birds.
"The same approach is now being considered for Shakhovskoye: the district governor has been instructed to work with economic entities to ensure that at least 50% of the value of these birds can be reimbursed to the people," he added.
Incidentally, earlier MIA 'Kazinform' reported that residents of Shakhovskoye had already conducted an independent examination, which revealed the presence of the H5N1 bird flu virus in the dead animals — under such a diagnosis, compensation is provided.
