In the East Kazakhstan region, during the first half of the year, environmentalists identified 86 violations of environmental legislation, reported acting head of the regional ecology department Asset Suleimenov. The total amount of fines exceeded 2 billion tenge.

According to MIA "Kazinform", experts carried out 33 inspections, as a result of which they issued the same number of orders.

The largest fines were imposed on industrial enterprises in the region:

  • Kazzinc LLP — more than 1.7 billion tenge, as well as additional fines of 60.9 million tenge;
  • XinXin LLP — 1.066 billion tenge;
  • Ust-Kamenogorsk CHP LLP — around 26.9 million tenge;
  • TMK JSC — 24 million tenge.

"The inspection results show that violations are recorded both at small businesses and at industrial giants. For each case, orders have been issued and response measures have been taken," emphasised Asset Suleimenov.

The department noted that companies in the region continue to invest in environmental projects, while spending on environmental measures often exceeds planned amounts. The agency promised to strengthen oversight of the fulfilment of environmental protection obligations.

Recall that earlier, representatives of the non-governmental institution "Eco Mangystau" (NGI) stated that the Koshkar-Ata tailings pond in the Mangystau region remains a high danger, despite the measures being taken. According to them, the facility remains a serious threat to the environment and the health of the region's population.
