The department of the Financial Monitoring Agency (AFM) in Almaty has completed an investigation into the creation and leadership of the "Warner Bros" financial pyramid scheme.
According to the agency's press service, the organisers used the brand of the Hollywood company of the same name, which is not connected to the project.
Investors were promised high returns for watching videos and recruiting new people.
The scheme consisted of nine levels, with the average investment amount being around 225 thousand tenge. Payment was accepted only in the cryptocurrency USDT.
Promotion was carried out through social networks and messengers: administrators created chats, conducted online training, distributed instructions and videos, promising rapid income growth.
The investigation identified cryptocurrency wallets used to collect funds from investors and for their transfer. With court approval, crypto assets worth 3.8 million USDT (1.9 billion tenge) were seized.
Ultimately, the court sentenced the organiser of the pyramid scheme to 5 years in prison. The court also granted the civil claims of 40 victims, whose damages are planned to be compensated using the seized assets. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
