One third of Kazakhstan's hydraulic engineering structures require repair.

At a minimum, 537 hydraulic engineering structures (HES) in Kazakhstan, designed to retain water, are in need of repair.

"The Ministry, together with local executive bodies, has conducted an inventory of existing hydraulic engineering structures. As of today, there are 1,502 retaining hydraulic engineering structures in the country (405 reservoirs, 247 dams, 461 weirs, 118 waterworks, and 271 ponds), of which 331 are in republican ownership, 934 in municipal ownership, 229 in private ownership, and 6 are ownerless.", reported the Kazinform International News Agency, citing the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.

Of the 537 HES in need of repair:

  • in municipal ownership – 428; 
  • in republican ownership – 52; 
  • in private ownership – 49; 
  • ownerless – 6. 

It is reported that their reconstruction will depend on the allocation of financial resources from the budget.
