In the Kokshetau city court, a verdict was passed in a criminal case concerning corruption in the transport control inspectorate of the Akmola region.

According to the press service of the Main Transport Prosecutor's Office, the defendants included the former head of the inspectorate department, an intermediary, and nine drivers.

The investigation established that the head of the department, through an intermediary, systematically received bribes in exchange for patronage during the transportation of petroleum products without permits and with gross violations of safety requirements.

The court found all those involved guilty and issued a special ruling to the Ministry of Transport regarding the prevention of corruption in its territorial division. It did not report what sentence was imposed on the convicted individuals.

The trial was held in open session with the participation of inspectorate staff. The verdict has entered into legal force.

We remind you that a similar corruption scandal previously occurred in the Zhambyl region, where a chief specialist of the transport inspectorate, Nursultan Bulatbekov, accused the management of organising schemes worth over 50 million tenge per year and published compromising video recordings.

In response, an internal investigation did not confirm his allegations, but did find disciplinary violations on his part and recommended that he be held accountable.

It later emerged that the head of the transport control department, Yerbol Kulymbet, is the cousin of the chairman of the committee for road transport, Altay Ali.
