The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Yerlan Nyssanbayev reported on the results of his department's work to improve the environmental situation, manage waste and preserve biodiversity.

According to the government's press service, by the end of this year the volume of regulated emissions from the largest enterprises decreased by 148 thousand tonnes, or 7.2% compared to 2022. It was reported that this reduction was achieved through the introduction of the best available technologies.

To monitor the environmental situation, automated monitoring systems are being introduced. Currently, 74 out of 78 enterprises transmit emission data in real time.

According to the minister, Kazakhstan generates more than 4.5 million tonnes of municipal waste annually. The recycling rate in 2025 rose to 28.6%.

"63 projects in the field of waste management have been approved, of which 22 have already been financed to the tune of 89.4 billion tenge. By 2030, we plan to achieve a recycling rate of up to 40%," said Yerlan Nyssanbayev.

At the same time, the construction of three waste incineration plants in Astana, Almaty and Shymkent is planned. The total investment volume will be 293 billion tenge.

In parallel, work continues to eliminate unauthorised landfills. As noted, this year 3,827 such sites were identified using space monitoring, of which 3,464 have already been cleared. Compared to 2018, the number of illegal dumps has decreased by 45%.

It should be recalled that it was previously reported that a landfill for temporary waste storage in the village of Ozerki, Zhanasemey District of the Abay Region, built in 2023 for 8 million tenge, has fallen into a state of disrepair. According to local residents, part of the fence has collapsed and waste has spread far beyond the designated area.
