Kazferrostal LLP has been ordered to pay a 11.4 billion tenge fine for illegally burying slag and storing scrap metal on the banks of the Malaya Almatinka River in Almaty. This was announced by the Deputy Head of the Almaty Ecology Department, Dinmukhamed Lesbekov, during a briefing at the Regional Communications Service (RCS).
According to Informburo.kz, the company was brought to administrative responsibility under the article on violation of environmental requirements for waste management.
"Kazferrostal LLP has been issued an administrative penalty in the form of a fine amounting to 11.4 billion tenge. The first instance court's decision has entered into legal force, which means the metallurgical plant has been finally found guilty of committing an environmental offence," said Lesbekov.
Incidentally, in June it became known that a recreation area on the banks of the Malaya Almatinka River, developed with the participation of Kazferrostal LLP, is set to be demolished due to identified pollution. Residents of the Turksib District opposed the demolition, stating that the facility was built not with budget funds but through the company's sponsorship support.
However, according to the city's ecology department, the company used slag crushed stone to reinforce the bank without the necessary permits. The department demanded that the plant remove all waste.
Meanwhile, in October 2022, the Almaty Ecology Department had already recorded violations at this company. At that time, Kazferrostal was fined 5 billion tenge.
