A video is being actively shared on social media showing the response of the Akim of Akmola Region, Marat Akhmetzhanov, to a question about an "overly expensive" sports complex for a small village.
According to the Instagram page of "blog_erzhana", during an interview a journalist asked the regional head why a sports complex costing 350 million tenge was being built for the village of Kyrykkudyk in the city of Stepnogorsk, which has a population of around 500 people.
The interviewer questioned whether such a facility was "overly expensive" for such a small number of residents. In response, Akhmetzhanov emphasised that he would like to see a sports complex like this in every village.
"So what, 500 people aren't people, are they? If there is a chance to build more such complexes, I'm all for it. And I will definitely support it," the Akim replied.
Akhmetzhanov's comments quickly spread across social media, where users actively voiced their support.
In March, it was reported that the new complex would house a sports hall with basketball, volleyball, and football pitches, a 100-seat assembly hall, a library, a dressing room, and four rooms for various clubs and activities.
