The inter-district criminal court of Pavlodar has sentenced two individuals for running the ‘TAKORP’ financial pyramid and advertising it through the media.
According to the regional courts' press service, in January last year one of the defendants devised a plan to organise the activities of a structural unit of the financial pyramid. The project attracted investors under the guise of an investment platform, supposedly based in the USA and operating in the field of advertising technology.
It was previously reported that to register, participants were offered to purchase cryptocurrency through the electronic ‘OKH’ crypto exchange. One of the main conditions was the recruitment of at least five new investors, which guaranteed the opportunity to take part in a wheel of fortune with a chance to win a valuable prize.
It was noted that more than 50 citizens invested between $30 and $500 in the pyramid, hoping to receive bonuses of up to $2,000 depending on the level. The total amount of invested funds exceeded 58 million tenge.
In the end, the court found the defendants guilty and sentenced one of them to 6 years' imprisonment. The second defendant received 1 year and 6 months' imprisonment. The convicts will serve their sentences in a minimum-security penal institution.
The civil claims of the victims for the amount of 58 million tenge were satisfied in full.
