Lands worth 5.9 billion tenge returned to the state in Almaty

The Almaty prosecutor's office has secured the return of 71.9 hectares of agricultural land to state ownership, which was illegally held by a foreign company.

According to the press service of the department, the plots, located in a prestigious part of the city, were used in violation of the Land Code. Under the law, foreign entities cannot own agricultural land in Kazakhstan.

Following a lawsuit from the prosecutor's office, the specialised inter-district economic court of Almaty upheld the demands of the supervisory authority. The appellate instance later left the court's decision unchanged.

As a result, land plots with a total value of 5.9 billion tenge were returned to the state.

It should be recalled that earlier it was reported that the Dutch company Noord Holland Trading Company B.V., which is linked to former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and billionaire Vladimir Kim, owns real estate in Almaty worth tens of billions of tenge.

Moreover, this property is located in a border zone, where Kazakhstani law forbids foreign companies from owning land.
