The Department for the Protection and Development of Competition of the Kostanay Region has completed an investigation into Ahmet Baitursynuly International Airport of Kostanay JSC. The audit was initiated due to an overstatement of the price of aviation fuel, despite the enterprise holding a dominant position in the market.
According to Kazinform MIA, the head of the department, Dastan Samen, stated at a briefing of the Regional Communications Service (RCS) that, based on the results of the investigation, the company was fined 8.4 million tenge and had monopoly income in the amount of 8.1 million tenge confiscated. The deadline for voluntary payment has not yet arrived.
The airport was also issued an order to eliminate violations of antitrust legislation. The deadline for its fulfilment has not yet arrived.
The department noted that the overstatement of fuel costs did not affect passenger tariffs: the price of air tickets remained unchanged.
Earlier, it was reported that Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport JSC in Astana is suspected of sharply increasing fees for the right to sell aviation fuel, which directly affects the cost of refuelling aircraft.
According to the draft conclusion of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition, since August last year, the airport has increased the fee nearly fivefold — from 16,240 to 77,852 tenge per tonne (excluding VAT). Since February of this year, the fee amount has been 60,137 tenge.
