In Balkhash, the management of a major utility company - Balkhash Zhylu LLP will face court on charges of fraud and money laundering. The amount of damage is 708 million tenge.
As reported by ekaraganda.kz citing the economic investigations department of the Karaganda region, the case has been sent to court. The stolen funds were intended for the repair of the Balkhash Thermal Power Plant and the maintenance of heat supply networks.
"The investigation has established that these individuals, between June 2020 and January 2023, embezzled budget funds intended for the repair and maintenance of critical infrastructure facilities, namely the Balkhash Thermal Power Plant and heat supply networks, by unjustifiably transferring money to the accounts of shell companies with which no civil or legal transactions were registered", the statement says.
It will be recalled that the pre-trial investigation into this case was registered by the Financial Monitoring Agency of the Karaganda region back in June 2023. At that time, it was reported that the management of 'Balkhash Zhylu' was suspected of embezzling 677 million tenge.
