The head of a water park in Atyrau has been detained, after a mass chlorine poisoning occurred in one of its pools on 13 July. This was reported by the city prosecutor's office.
According to CentralMedia24.kz, a measure of restraint in the form of house arrest has been imposed on him.
"In one of the water parks in Atyrau, 12 minors were poisoned. In connection with this incident, the head of the water park has been recognised as a suspect. On 18 July, a court sanctioned a measure of restraint in the form of house arrest against him," the prosecutor's office noted.
It will be recalled that on 13 July, a case of chlorine poisoning was recorded in one of the pools in Atyrau. 14 people, including children, sought medical assistance.
Staff from the regional communications service carried out anti-epidemic measures and took samples of water and air, but no exceedances of chlorine vapour were detected.
It later emerged that the incident occurred against the backdrop of a series of sudden power outages. Police have opened a criminal case and are conducting an investigation.
