In Taraz, the acting head of the Transport Control Inspectorate for the Zhambyl Region, Daulet Kemelov, has been convicted.
According to the press service of the Anti-Corruption Agency, he was found guilty of accepting bribes ranging from 100,000 to 450,000 tenge from owners and drivers of freight vehicles, M. Mamyrov, N. Abdullayev, and Ye. Kanatov.
The bribes were offered to allow unimpeded travel across the region.
It is noted that Mamyrov, in addition to paying a bribe, acted as an intermediary in obtaining bribes from Abdullayev and Kanatov.
As a result, Kemelov was sentenced to 6 years in prison, and Mamyrov to 3 years in prison. The bribe-givers, Abdullayev and Kanatov, were ordered to pay a fine of 5.6 million tenge.
Furthermore, the convicted individuals have been banned for life from holding positions in public service and quasi-state institutions.
It will be recalled that information about Daulet Kemelov coming under the scrutiny of the Anti-Corruption Service was reported back in January.
It also became known at the time that in July 2022, the transport control inspectorate for the Zhambyl Region, under Kemelov's leadership, had identified a lack of necessary equipment at control posts, the perfunctory keeping of video recordings, and the systematic shielding of offenders from liability.
For improper performance of duties, which led to individual and legal entities avoiding fines totalling more than 2.2 million tenge, Kemelov and three inspectors received warnings of incomplete service compliance.
Incidentally, according to unconfirmed reports, Daulet Kemelov is believed to be the nephew of the former mayor of Almaty, Bakytzhan Sagintayev, and a relative of the head of the Committee for Road Transport and Transport Control, Altay Ali.
