The head of Shymkent's youth resource centre has been given a disciplinary sanction after employees complained about being forced to be active on social media.

According to Informburo.kz, centre employees reported that for failing to like and comment on the institution's posts, they were given verbal warnings and written reprimands.

According to employees, the centre's management kept a list of those who were not active on posts — tracking both likes and comments. This information spread on social media, after which the situation became public.

The city's department of internal policy and youth affairs described the situation as an internal conflict between two employees.

According to the head of the department, Aigerim Dzhumagulova, no official complaint was received by the department — a message in the «e-Өtinish» system was only registered the day after the publications appeared.

"Unfortunately, it's now fashionable – first make a fuss on social media, then investigate. Yes, the head of the YRC in this situation, to put it mildly, went overboard. Forcing employees to like posts is not an option. If you really want 'activity' on social networks, it's better to focus efforts on creating content that genuinely engages," Dzhumagulova commented.

As a result, a decision was made to impose a disciplinary sanction on the head of the youth centre.
