The Anti-Corruption Service has identified corruption risks during an external analysis in the field of sports financing in 2024.
According to the department's press office, Anti-Corruption staff found 278 instances of the use of fake diplomas by directors, coaches, and other workers in the sports sector.
For example, in Astana, one of the directors of a children's and youth Olympic reserve sports school was working with a fake higher education diploma. It emerged that during his studies, he held the position of instructor in another sports organisation.
Additionally, the deputy director of the regional specialised children's and youth Olympic reserve sports school in the Mangystau region was also working with a fictitious diploma.
"Materials relating to all instances have been handed over to the internal affairs bodies, and pre-trial investigations are currently underway. As part of the measures taken, employment contracts have been terminated with 250 individuals. The question of dismissal for the others will be resolved based on the results of the investigations," the statement reads.
For context, in November 2023, the prosecutor's office of the Akmola region identified 13 "specialists" in the education sector who got jobs using fake documents.
