Head of the DSD (Department of State Revenue) of West Kazakhstan Region detained in connection with illegal import case

National Security Committee (NSC) reported the detection and suppression of a channel for the illegal import of consumer goods into Kazakhstan. 

According to the investigation, the scheme involved a public official from the state revenue authorities and a resident of the capital, who, for a monetary reward, facilitated foreign nationals in crossing the state border.

WHO WAS DETAINED

By court order, one of the heads of a department within the State Revenue Department (SRD) of the West Kazakhstan Region and a resident of the capital have been remanded in custody. Names and other identifying details have not been disclosed in the materials.

WHAT THE SUSPECTS ARE ACCUSED OF

As reported by the NSC Anti-Corruption Service, these individuals, for a monetary reward, assisted foreign nationals in the unimpeded import of consumer goods into the country. The statement refers to a scheme related to crossing the state border.

SUM AND ESTIMATED DAMAGE

During the investigation, the receipt of bribes amounting to over 100 million tenge was procedurally documented.

According to preliminary estimates, the damage to the state amounted to 1.9 billion tenge. The methodology for calculating the damage is not specified in the materials.
