A foreigner with 11 kg of hashish oil was detained at Almaty airport

In Almaty International Airport, a 20-year-old foreign national has been detained, from whom approximately 11 kg of hashish oil was seized. A criminal case has been opened, and the suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility (TDF).

HOW THE DETENTION TOOK PLACE

According to the portal Polisia.kz, police officers, together with the Border Service of the National Security Committee (BS NSC), conducted special screening operations at Almaty airport. The detention occurred after the arrival of flight Bangkok — Almaty.

During a personal search, 12 plastic containers of hashish oil were found on the suspect. The total weight of the seized substance was approximately 11 kg.

WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE SUSPECT

The detainee is a 20-year-old citizen of a neighbouring country. His name and nationality have not been disclosed. Following his detention, he was placed in a temporary detention facility.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (CC RK) ("Smuggling of items withdrawn from circulation or items whose circulation is restricted"). The penalty under this article provides for up to 20 years imprisonment or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

STATISTICS AND MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS MEASURES

As reported by Yeldar Abdikenov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Countering Drug Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), since the beginning of the year, law enforcement agencies have prevented 57 instances of drug smuggling into Kazakhstan.

He noted that the work is being carried out within the framework of the 'Law and Order' principle and is aimed at preventing the use of the country's transit and logistical potential by transnational criminal groups.
