The General Prosecutor's Office has presented the results of the supervisory activities of the agency's bodies for the first half of the current year. According to the agency's press service, over six months prosecutors restored the rights of more than 2 million people and brought over 14,000 officials to justice.
As a result of inspections in the areas of subsoil use, oil and gas extraction, precious metals trading, fish catch and export, medical insurance, sports, and other socially significant fields, 100 criminal cases were initiated. Fifty-eight people have already been convicted in these cases.
The General Prosecutor's Office also reported a 5% decrease in the country's crime rate — from 56,369 to 53,379 recorded crimes.
"State prosecution was supported in 12,500 criminal cases. As part of supervision, judicial acts regarding 425 individuals were brought into compliance with the law, and the position of 248 convicts was improved," the statement reads.
Furthermore, at the initiative of the agency, tens of thousands of accounts used by drug shops and 'money mules' were frozen. The total amount of frozen funds exceeded 10 billion tenge.
At the same time, as part of the fight against cybercrime, law enforcement officers liquidated three international criminal call centres operating on the territory of Kazakhstan. Under the coordination of the prosecutor's office, 47 pre-trial proceedings were initiated, 82 SIM box devices and more than 50,000 SIM cards were seized. Thirty-six people were detained, 16 of whom are foreign citizens. Sentences have already been passed in 4 cases.
A separate area of supervision was the organisation of conscription for compulsory military service. In the first half of the year, the General Prosecutor's Office filed 10 protests with departments for defence affairs and local executive bodies, demanding the cancellation of orders for conscription of citizens and bringing the composition of draft boards into compliance with legal requirements.
In addition, the inspections revealed damage to the budget in the amount of 213 million tenge, related to illegal expenses on organising conscription — including food, transportation and medical examination of conscripts. 57 million tenge of this amount has already been recovered.
