The Almaty Maslikhat reduced the funding for the City Audit Commission by 129.6 million tenge.

“A number of response measures have been taken regarding violations identified in the activities of the Almaty Audit Commission. Shortcomings in its work were highlighted by the Supreme Audit Chamber in May of this year. In particular, by a decision of the Almaty Maslikhat dated 13 June, amendments were made to reduce its funding by 129.6 million tenge.”, the press service of the Supreme Audit Chamber (SAC) reported.

At the same time, the Chairman of the Audit Commission ordered a halt to the publication of audit materials in a non-state information system. It was reported that this created risks of data leakage and loss of access to official information.

Earlier, the SAC recorded a number of violations in the activities of the Almaty Audit Commission. Cases were identified where budget funds were allocated for services that were not actually performed.

“Due to the lack of actual need to engage audit organisations in 2022-2023, 150.4 million tenge were reallocated to other areas, where the main expenditure items went towards paying bonuses,” the statement said.

It is noted that audit commissions carry out their activities independently of other state audit bodies. They are funded from the local budget, and therefore are accountable to the maslikhat of the relevant region or city.
